A Visual Guide to Fruits and Vegetables

Everything you need to know about fruits and vegetables.

What are fruits and vegetables? By definition, fruits are the edible parts of seed-bearing plants, and vegetables are the edible parts of herbaceous plants. Fruits and vegetables cover a wide variety of produce, so I created an infographic to display the basic meanings of both terms, featuring some of the most popular crops available in stores.

Here are the common ways each fruit and vegetable is prepared.

1. Strawberry
Strawberries are often consumed in large quantities. This berry is served fresh or in prepared products such as jellies, fruit juices, ice creams, milkshakes and chocolates.

2. Orange
Oranges can be eaten fresh or squeezed into juice.

3. Lemon
Lemons can be squeezed into juice. Its pulp and zest can be used for baking purposes. Besides cooking purposes, this fruit also has cleaning purposes, containing a natural disinfectant.

4. Bananas
Bananas can be eaten fresh or prepared in entrees and desserts. Bananas are used in many recipes around the world.

5. Watermelon
Watermelon can cut up and served in slices. This fruit can also be blended with other fruit juices to make flavorful smoothies.

6. Onion
Onions are usually served cooked, as part of a savory entree. But this bulb-like vegetable can also be served raw in sandwiches or burgers.

7. Cucumber
Cucumbers can be served raw in various dishes.

8. Bell Pepper
Bell peppers are a healthy way to add a pop of flavor in a variety of dishes. This vegetable can also be roasted.

9. Carrots
Carrots can be eaten raw, cooked or squeezed into juice.

10. Lettuce
Lettuce is often served in salads and topped with oil or dressing.

Of course, these are just basic methods on how to prepare fruits and vegetables. You are welcome to prepare them in any way that you like.
